The challenge

Marketing teams watch social trends, search demand, competitors and industry news across a dozen tabs. The useful signal arrives late, or it arrives in someone's head and never reaches the meeting where decisions get made.

The approach

Let agents do the monitoring and first-pass summarising. Keep people in charge of judgement. Every item in the brief is tagged to the brand it affects and ends with a suggested action, so the brief is something to act on, not read and forget.

The design principle here is restraint. A brief that tries to report everything gets ignored by week two. Field Notes is built to say less, more usefully.

Outside / Inside

What customers would see, and what runs behind it.

Outside

  • One consolidated visual brief each morning
  • Per-brand tags and suggested actions
  • Weekly roll-up for the marketing meeting

Inside

  • Source lists and topic rules per brand
  • Agents that collect, de-duplicate and summarise
  • Feedback ratings that tune what gets included

Intended value

  • Cut the time spent on manual monitoring
  • Shorten the gap between a trend appearing and a decision about it
  • Start each marketing meeting from evidence

These are the objectives the concept is designed to test. They are hypotheses, not results.

What we’d develop

  1. 01Monitoring agents for social trends, search demand, competitor activity and industry news
  2. 02A one-page daily brief with each item tagged to the business it affects and a suggested next step
  3. 03Delivery into the tools the team already uses, such as Notion, Slack or email
  4. 04A simple rating loop so the team can mark items useful or noise, which tunes future briefs
  5. 05Documentation so the team can adjust sources and topics without us
